What the counts do and do not mean

Missouri registers the individual installer and records the counties they serve. Your local health authority permits the system itself, and in some counties runs its own additional requirements on top.

The number against each county is how many licensed businesses give that county as their address — not how many will travel to it. A Missouri licence is granted by Missouri DHSS and is valid across the state, so a company two counties away can legally do the work. In a rural county the listed handful is rarely the real choice set, which is why every county page here also lists its neighbours.

Registrations carry an expiration date, shown on every listing. The state republishes the dataset as registrations change.

• Installers — a business licensed for the work that installs onsite wastewater treatment systems.
• Soil evaluators — a business licensed for the work that evaluates soil to decide what kind of system a site can take.
• Registrants — an individual who holds a Missouri onsite wastewater registration personally.
