How Virginia regulates septic work
Virginia licenses the contractor, and every listing here carries the licence number, so DPOR's lookup will confirm its status in seconds. The Virginia Department of Health, which permits the work, does not license the contractor.
Contractor licences carry an expiration date, shown on every listing. DPOR republishes the regulant lists roughly every five business days.
Virginia licenses people as well as businesses. The individual licences — licensed onsite sewage system installers, licensed onsite sewage system operators, licensed onsite soil evaluators — belong to a named professional, and we list them on county pages rather than giving each person a page of their own.
